Great packaging protects your products, delights customers, and saves you money. Here's everything you need to know to ship beautifully and efficiently.

Why Packaging Matters

The package is the first physical thing a customer touches when their order arrives. Done well, it protects your product, reduces costly returns, and turns a simple delivery into a memorable brand moment. Done poorly, it leads to damage, complaints, and lost trust.

Choose the Right Box

Start with a box that fits. An oversized box invites items to shift in transit and forces you to pay for dimensional weight you do not need. Aim for snug, not tight, leaving room for a thin layer of cushioning on every side.

  • Small & sturdy items: a right-sized corrugated box prevents rattling.

  • Fragile goods: double-wall boxes add a crucial margin of protection.

  • Soft, non-breakable items: poly mailers cut weight and cost.

Cushion Like You Mean It

The goal of cushioning is simple: nothing should move when you gently shake the box. Wrap each item individually, fill empty space completely, and keep fragile pieces away from the box walls where impacts are strongest.

A good rule of thumb: every item deserves at least two inches of cushioning between it and any outer edge.

Seal It Properly

Use quality pressure-sensitive shipping tape and apply it along all seams using the H-taping method. Skip masking tape, duct tape, and string, which can loosen or snag in automated sorting equipment.

Label for Success

Place a single, clearly printed label on the largest flat surface, and remove or cover any old labels and barcodes. A clean, scannable label keeps your package moving smoothly through every sorting facility.

The Bottom Line

Thoughtful packaging is one of the highest-return habits in shipping. A few extra minutes of care protects your products, saves money on damage claims, and leaves customers with a great first impression, every single time.
